Helpful tips to keep you afloat during the Covid-19 endemic

A few days ago, NYSC Orientation camps across the country were shut down.

The fear of the covid-19 pandemic keeps on growing everyday, and because of this, many public meeting places keep being shut down.

Churches, mosques, schools alike … Most doors are being closed against this virus, because it tends to spread faster in places of meeting and clustered environments.

I am friends with a number of youth corpers across the country, and in listening to their stories of how camps were closed down, I could get the mixed feelings vibes.

Many were happy, others were sad.

Emotions did not change the fact that the camps are closed, and many other public meeting places, at least for now.

-

At my workplace yesterday, I could see the fear in people's eyes as they came in contact with themselves. No one wants to be given a handshake again, people are avoiding themselves like the plague.

This is interesting because no case of a coronavirus infected patient has been recorded in my state, none that we know of.

As fear-inducing as the times may be now, there are blessings to be found in this season.

(1) You may just be a 9 - 5 worker who has to stay at home for now. No more undue stress, no more harrowing traffic jams.

No more rushing off without seeing the kids in the morning and returning as tired as anything at night.

This is a time where you should take your health seriously. Rest is necessary.

Now, you have more time on your hands!

(2) You may be a youth corper and suddenly, you all were asked to leave the orientation camps yesterday.

You are happy there will be no more early morning calls from hard taskmasters, you can sleep in all you like.

Now, you have more time on your hands!

(3) You may be a student. Our case is different because asides the covid-19 pandemic, ASUU is on strike. 😂

It feels refreshing to just unwind, chill out and not worry about lectures, lecturers and their wahala, I know!

Now, you have more time on your hands!

In all these scenarios and more I could not capture, one thing is common

NOW, YOU HAVE MORE TIME ON YOUR HANDS!

The real question is, what will you do with it?

Remember, the reason you have always given for not doing what you have been supposed to do is "I don't have time."

Look now, can you really say that at this time?"

This is the best time to get started with that idea, business and concept; now you have more time on your hands.

Pretty soon, life may return to how it was. Will you let all this time pass you by?

So, here are a few suggestions I will leave with you.

[1] If you are a worker, you may want to liaise with your boss and find out if there are tasks you can complete for the organisation remotely.

Are there things you can do that will profit the firm, from the comfort of your house? If so, please get started already, while still self-isolating.

Resuming after sometime of inactivity and piled-up work will not be such a great experience for you. You may want to get started with working remotely already.

(2) While you stay indoors (for those indoors 😎), you may want to look into getting a skill that let's you work remotely.

In one word, freelancing - that is, if you can.

Asides being a student and my normal job, I offer content creation services, copywriting, and coaching services.

My skills as a remote writer allows me to work for people without having to meet them. All I need is internet connection, data and my well-charged device.

Many skills now can permit you work remotely. Graphics designing, coaching and mentorship, content creation, copywriting, online marketing, etc - the list is virtually endless.

So don't just while away time unnecessarily, do something productive with this time you have on your hands.

You may also want to look into creating digital products like e-books, podcasts, workbooks, etc. These are important if you want to create passive income.

(3) Entrepreneurs, this is the best time to take your business online if you haven't already.

If you haven't already, this is the 21st century nau. 😞 You need to up your game.

Not being able to physically transact does not mean that your business should run into an early grave. Many people online need your products and services.

If you sell physical products, your next buyer may meet you online, pay for your goods, and all you need to do will be to work with a logistics company to get them delivered to the person.

This is why online stores like Jumia may not be so affected by this pandemic; they were not limited to physically transacting with people since the beginning of their operations.

Your business needs to be online now more than ever before. Another viable way is leveraging Social Media.

I will deliver more on this in another post! 😀

(4) I can't help but ask myself "Is this the introduction of a new era?"

Since many have to be at home, I can't help but think that there is a message in this.

The future of work may just be in virtual reality.

A few months ago, I hosted my first masterclass on "the art of storytelling" and we had almost 200 people in attendance, from 4 different countries.

It ran for 2 days and the testimonials are still coming in. Since then, I have had some virtual speaking engagements and a community of writers that is still growing.

All from a single virtual training!

You do not have to be in a place physically to get things done, no sir!

Make use of the internet. Leverage Social Media with wisdom. Your device is powerful enough to get you started, use it well.

(5) All in all, please take proper care of yourself. Seek proper medical attention if you come down with signs of illness.

This is not a time to self-medicate. Your life is too precious, please! 👐

Apply these tips. You will find those that will work for you.
